High School Football Team Takes Major Step to Decrease Impact with Shockstrip® Clad Helmets

OCTOBER 13, 2011: YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Shockstrip, Inc. is pleased to announce Youngstown East High School has elected to outfit their entire Varsity Football team with the Shockstrip® – a patent-pending sports device that were created to give helmets an added layer of protection and reduce forces associated with helmet-to-helmet impacts.

Shockstrips®, which adhere to the exterior shell of a helmet, help absorb and deflect the violent vibration produced by helmet-to-helmet impact.

“There’s been overwhelming interest and support for the use of Shockstrips since their release in August,” stated Dr. Novicky. “The number of parents and coaches contacting us to help them bring Shockstrips to their child’s school increases.”

With the addition of Youngstown East High School, there are now more than 81 players within 9 different schools wearing Shockstrips on their helmets.

The 39 player varsity East Panther team will take the field for the first time with Shockstrip equipped helmets on Thursday, October 13th to play the Poland Bulldogs at 7pm in Poland High School’s stadium on Dobbins Road.

“On national, state and local levels, people are concerned and looking for new ways to change and improve sports safety,” said Novicky. “And on Thursday, when the Youngstown East Panthers walk onto the field together to take their positions, we’ll all get to witness a first step towards that change.”

PLEASE NOTE: 1) No helmet pad can prevent or eliminate the risk of concussions or other serious head injuries while playing sports; 2) Scientists have also not reached agreement on how the results of impact absorption tests relate to concussions; and 3) No conclusions about a reduction of risk or severity of concussive injury should be drawn from impact absorption tests.
